Of course the President should pardon Scooter Libby. It is vital that he issue a pardon. To allow this vindictive political witch hunt to succeed is dangerous. Reprisal against one individual in order to threaten opposition leaders is a tactic of dictatorship. We cannot allow prosecution to be used as a tool of faction.
The Special Prosecutor knew from the beginning that no crime had been committed. He also knew the identity of the person responsible for disclosing the information under dispute. Not only was there no crime, there was no motive for the alleged perjury and obstruction.
No crime. No victim. No conspiracy. No motive. Yet this man must pay a quarter million dollars, lose his livelihood, face prison for almost 3 years of his life, and following 2 full years probation, forever bear the status of convicted felon. The tribunal apparently drew inspiration for these sanctions from Malleus Maleficarum.
Really, it’s too bad Libby didn’t just betray his country, there’s great tolerance for that in the Party. What a different outcome we would see if only he were guilty of theft and destruction of classified documents, if he had merely compromised national security protocols like the apparatchik Sandy Berger.
A good man’s entire life has been wrecked. He was convicted of inaccurate memory of chronology, the chronology of trivia. Hours of testimony was sifted for discrepancies, which were selectively culled from a literal mountain of interactions. Divergent recollection, primarily pertaining to a conversation with one media journalist led to the jury’s verdict. There was no evidence, of course, to lend weight to either man’s recollection, beyond the undeniable truth that the accused is not a Party member.
The criminal Libby refused to lie under oath and confess to unlawful disclosure of information. He would not perjure himself by admitting to complicity in a conspiracy. The criminal Libby received a harsh sentence because he failed to placate the Party by trembling, recanting, pleading. He did not feed them any new names. All of this annoyed the judge. That is why the criminal Libby received the harshest sentence currently possible for the Party to rationalize.
This man’s real crime is in who he is and what he believes. He served the wrong side, under the wrong superior, a superior unable, unwilling, to protect him. Take warning from what these crimes cost him. Punishment is fierce for refusing to bend the knee before Baal, America’s amoral, totalitarian Left.

Too many Americans hate America. Perhaps for some it is merely an affectation, vanity posing as a too, too precious conscience. In any case this lethal prion of self-loathing eats away at our national will to survive. Can we alone of all nations, of all generations in recorded history, afford to reflexively revile ourselves? “Yes,” goes the smug, preening murmur, “self reproach is a testament to our superiority, it demonstrates our finely tuned intellect, our meticulous ethical sense.” Incessant scab-picking is apparently a sign of heroic virtue.
The rest of us must cease to tolerate this bile. It is no credit to our society, it is not “our greatest strength” as we so often hear these raucus peacocks proclaim. Americans who hate America must be shunned, discredited and rejected. Scorn publicly their neurotic gnawing of tongues over America’s sins and flaws. We cannot afford to indulge their snot-nosed cynicism and nascent violence, or their narcissism, which grows increasingly morbid and dangerous. Patriotism has been redefined as narrowness, as nationalism that stands in the way of the glorious planetary future of humanity. That is why too many Americans hate America and that is why they must be shunned.
It is dangerous folly to leave this infection untreated. We must isolate and cauterize with scorn and disgust these shallow ingrates, cut them off as the stinking mass they truly are. We must not allow America to die of gangrene.
